2012 Mission-Driven Management Summit Features Dave Norton, Dan Pink Discussing Leadership, Motivation in Nonprofit, Public Sectors

"Bestselling business authors Dave Norton and Dan Pink on March 7-8 headlined the 2012 Mission-Driven Management Summit in Washington, DC, discussing leadership and motivation in the nonprofit and public sectors."

Washington, D.C., Mar, 13, 2012 -- The 2012 Mission-Driven Management Summit at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, March 6-8, featured keynote presentations by Dave Norton on “Balancing ‘Left-Brain’ Tools with ‘Right-Brain’ Leadership” and Daniel Pink on motivating individuals in the mission-driven space by allowing them to work with autonomy, mastery, and purpose.

Norton’s discussion focused on the need for leaders to use both structured, “left-brain” tools in addition to intuitive, “right-brain” behavior to help implement strategy at mission-driven organizations. Pink discussed years of research in the social sciences that debunk the generally accepted belief that rewards—especially money—motivate workers to perform at their best.

“The event—attended by more than 100 individuals—was a huge success,” said Ted Jackson, Managing Partner at Ascendant Strategy Management Group, the consultancy that sponsored the summit. “For three full days, participants got hands on instruction on how to help execute their strategies, learned best practice from Hall of Fame case studies, and heard the inspiring stories of successful mission-driven organizations.”

In addition to Norton and Pink, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR) told its Hall of Fame strategy execution story, including a discussion of not only what it does, but why it exists, and an inspiring promotional video for the organization.

According to one participant, the Mission-Driven Management Summit provided “amazing exposure to a world with people who have similar goals and deep expertise.”

While at the summit, participants were able to network with one another as well as the speakers, participate in strategy and performance management workshops, and attend a cocktail reception and book signing with Norton and Pink.

Other highly-rated presentations included those by the Canadian Department of Defence, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council (SAWDC), and the State of Maryland StateStat.
