Boston Nonprofit Networking Breakfast a Success

Posted July 20, 2008 9:58 PM by Ted Jackson

On Wednesday, July 16th, Ascendant hosted a breakfast for nonprofit executives at the Fairmont Copley Hotel in Boston. Over 80 executives showed up. They keynote speaker was Dr. David Norton, co-creator of the BSC concept.

Laura Downing moderated the session, and David Norton spoke about applying the Balanced Scorecard framework to nonprofit organizations. He also spoke about the concepts in his recently published book, The Execution Premium. There was extensive discussion before and after the presentation about how to best apply the concepts of the BSC in mission-driven organizations.

There were questions about when to apply the BSC in the planning cycle and whether the BSC would work in very small organizations of less than 20 people. Others raised questions about where fundraising fit into the BSC framework. Several attendees also gave testimonies about the power of the BSC concept in their organization. Overall the event was very successfull. Follow the link to see some pictures.

This breakfast was very insightful and there is a clear need for Balanced Scorecard in non profits. It would be great to keep this community together and discuss issues that we are all facing.
